Champ Sergio Takes On ‘The PuttMaster’

18-year-old only took up game a year ago, instantly cuts his handicap to 4,
and then beats Sergio Garcia in Putting Challenge

A Putting session with Sergio Garcia was the reward for a young golfer who has set an astonishing new World Putting Record by Holing 136 consecutive 10ft putts.

Having trained on the simple but effective PuttMaster putting and alignment tool all the Pro’s are talking about, Mark Stuart-Hutcheson, an 18-year-old student who plays at Atalaya Golf Club in southern Spain, beat off worldwide challenges from Pros and other Low-Handicap amateurs to smash the existing World Putting Record of 120 putts, set five months ago by a British Professional.

His prize was a VIP trip to the Volvo Masters and a chance to meet and play with some of the biggest names in World Golf, including Spanish superstar Sergio Garcia.

Mark, who only took up golf a year ago but incredibly is already playing off a Handicap of 4, said: "I had the honour to play with Sergio and Miguel Jiminez at Valderrama. They were great fun and joked that 136 consecutive 10ft putts would be easy. They challenged me to a friendly match in front of the crowds, so we used Sergio’s putter on the practice green. Sergio missed a number of his putts and I went on to sink all mine! He took it in great spirit, he’s a fantastic Champion and a really nice guy”

The event attracted a host of Professionals, club players and celebrities, including football legend Sir Geoff Hurst who took lessons from PuttMaster’s inventor, Terry Hateley-Lowe .

Mark's coach, Simon Elliott, Head Pro at Atalaya, has been amazed at his pupil's progress since taking up the game less than a year ago and is impressed by how PuttMaster has helped him hone his skills on the greens. Simon said: "Mark has only been using his PuttMaster a short time, but you can easily see how it’s benefited his game. He has quickly developed a precise eye for alignment and a repeating, on-line swing, which is essential for consistent putting, in fact, everyone we teach on a PuttMaster regardless of age, size or gender, improves instantly!"

PuttMaster, used by a number of European Tour professionals including Gary Evans and Jamie Spence, is the unique pocket-sized training mat that features a white centre line that points to the hole and teaches the golfer to swing the putter squarely through the impact zone.
